Wooden Christmas Star Ornament Craft

This festive rustic wooden Christmas star ornament is inexpensive and simple to make using twigs and dollar store craft supplies. It will be a lovely addition to your holiday decor, and it makes a thoughtful, handmade gift!

Star Ornament Supply List

  • 5 twigs from outside cut to the same length (mine are 8″ long)
  • glue gun and glue sticks
  • mini pinecones
  • bits of faux evergreen (I clipped mine off of a garland)
  • faux snow
  • jute twine
  • pruning shears

This faux snow from Dollar Tree was the only item I purchased. Everything else was in my craft stash.

How to Make a Christmas Star Ornament

I was inspired by a similar star ornament that I saw at Target. I loved the rustic look, and knew I could make one for next to nothing!

Step 1. Arrange twigs into a star

Form a teepee with the first two twigs

Step 2. Make an A

Put a third twig across the top to create an “A”.

Step 3. Continue Setting up the Twig Star Ornament

Lay the fourth twig down matching the ends as shown.

Step 4. Finish Creating the Twig Star Ornament

Complete the star with the fifth twig.

Step 5. Glue the Star Ornament

Starting at the top, hot glue the twigs together.

Step 6. Finish Gluing the Star

Continue gluing all of the connection points in place.

Step 7. Cut the Evergreen

Snip the faux evergreens into (3) 1/2 inch pieces.

Step 8. Add Evergreen

Glue the evergreen bits to the star ornament as desired.

Step 9. Add Pinecones

Glue the mini pinecones to the star ornament near the evergreen bits.

Step 10. Add Faux Snow

Apply hot glue to desired places on the star ornament. Sprinkle with faux snow and shake off excess. This is a great way to cover the visible hot glue at the connection points.

Step 11. Add a Hanger

Create a loop hanger with jute twine and glue to the back of the star.

I really love this nature inspired Christmas Star Ornament! It would’ve been right at home on my Rustic Plaid Woodland Christmas Tree that I styled two years ago. I’ll definitely be making more!

Wooden Christmas Star Ornament Craft

Materials

  • 5 twigs from outside cut to the same length (mine are 8" long)

    1. Arrange twigs into a star. Form a teepee with the first two twigs.

    2. Put a third twig across the top to create an "A".

    3. Lay the fourth twig down matching the ends as shown.

    5. Glue the star. Starting at the top, hot glue the twigs together.

    6. Continue gluing all of the connection points in place.

    7. Snip the faux evergreens into (3) 1/2 inch pieces.

    8. Glue the evergreen bits to the star ornament as desired.

    9. Glue the mini pinecones to the star ornament near the evergreen bits.

    10. Add faux snow. Apply hot glue to desired places on the star ornament. Sprinkle with faux snow and shake off excess. This is a great way to cover the visible hot glue at the connection points.

    11. Add a hanger. Create a loop hanger with jute twine and glue to the back of the star.
