If you love DIY Christmas ornaments, you’re in for a real treat! At the end of this post, I’ll be sharing some more ornament crafts from my talented blogger friends. You won’t want to miss it!
Star Ornament Supply List
- 5 twigs from outside cut to the same length (mine are 8″ long)
- glue gun and glue sticks
- mini pinecones
- bits of faux evergreen (I clipped mine off of a garland)
- faux snow
- jute twine
- pruning shears
This faux snow from Dollar Tree was the only item I purchased. Everything else was in my craft stash.
How to Make a Christmas Star Ornament
I was inspired by a similar star ornament that I saw at Target. I loved the rustic look, and knew I could make one for next to nothing!
Step 1. Arrange twigs into a star
Form a teepee with the first two twigs
Step 2. Make an A
Put a third twig across the top to create an “A”.
Step 3. Continue Setting up the Twig Star Ornament
Lay the fourth twig down matching the ends as shown.
Step 4. Finish Creating the Twig Star Ornament
Complete the star with the fifth twig.
Step 5. Glue the Star Ornament
Starting at the top, hot glue the twigs together.
Step 6. Finish Gluing the Star
Continue gluing all of the connection points in place.
Step 7. Cut the Evergreen
Snip the faux evergreens into (3) 1/2 inch pieces.
Step 8. Add Evergreen
Glue the evergreen bits to the star ornament as desired.
Step 9. Add Pinecones
Glue the mini pinecones to the star ornament near the evergreen bits.
Step 10. Add Faux Snow
Apply hot glue to desired places on the star ornament. Sprinkle with faux snow and shake off excess. This is a great way to cover the visible hot glue at the connection points.
Step 11. Add a Hanger
Create a loop hanger with jute twine and glue to the back of the star.
I really love this nature inspired Christmas Star Ornament! It would’ve been right at home on my Rustic Plaid Woodland Christmas Tree that I styled two years ago. I’ll definitely be making more!
