$100 Room Challenge – Front Entry Makeover, Week #3

Welcome back to week three of the $100 Room Challenge!  We’re all now at the mid point of our room projects.  We have just one more week of updates until we reveal our completed rooms at week five.  I can’t wait to see everyone’s finished rooms.  Once again, a big thank you to Erin from Lemons, Lavender and Laundry for putting this challenge together!

Last week, I shared with you the sad tale of my wallpaper debacle.  If you missed it, you can read about week one HERE and week two HERE.  I initially decided to carry on as planned despite the bubbly, peeling wallpaper.  I thought I’d be able to complete the challenge and replace the wallpaper later.  But…I. JUST. CAN’T.  It looked so awful.  So down it came!

I had just $48 left in my budget (the wallpaper cost $52 🙁 ), so I decided to spend the money on wall paint.  This means I won’t be able to paint the door, but that’s not a big deal. (By the way, I was going to paint it green!)  I went to Sherwin Williams to check out paint colors.  I returned home with several color cards in shades of…green!  I have green on the brain, what can I say?  It also happens to be my favorite color.

I chose a color called “Liveable Green”.  It’s more of a subtle green, but it’s definitely green.  I was able to buy a quart of both tinted primer and paint for $33, as they were having a 30% off sale.

I painted the wall with one coat of primer.

Then the paint!  The coverage was great with one coat, but I’m going to apply two coats.  I was a little nervous that it would be difficult to cover up the dark maroon paint, but the tinted primer did the trick!

It finally looks great!  Just the right shade of green 🙂

With $19 left in the budget, I’m going to make a few decorative items this week to complete the makeover.  I have a piece of furniture from another room that I’m going to use as a side table.  I also have a small rug in my stash to put in front of the door.  So I should be able to complete the project and stay on budget.

Sometimes things don’t turn out as planned, but that’s also what makes this challenge interesting!

Now it’s time to check out what everyone else has done to their rooms this week!
