Winter White Fabric Flower Holiday Wreath

There’s something special about a handmade wreath. While attractive ready made wreaths can be purchased at department stores, I prefer wreaths that are unique and hand crafted. For the last two years, I’ve designed holiday wreaths for the blog. This year, I’m sharing my Winter White Fabric Flower Holiday Wreath.

I’m so honored to once again be a participant in the Celebrate Christmas Blog Hop, hosted by Leen from Sand Dollar Lane. If you’re stopping by after a visit with Kelly from The Tattered Pew, welcome! I just love the red berries on her large outdoor wreath!

Inspiration for the Winter White Fabric Flower Wreath

This year, I decided to make a wreath out of fabric for my indoor decor. I wanted to display it on the bookcase that holds my ironstone collection. I knew that a white floral wreath would coordinate well with the ironstone and look striking against the dark shelves. Plus, I had everything I would need in my stash.

Supply List

  • (1) 14″ round wreath form (I bought mine at Dollar Tree)
  • white cotton fabric (about a yard)
  • cardboard (I used a cereal box)
  • fabric scissors
  • Mod Podge (I bought my small container at Dollar Tree)
  • (18) 1/4″ wood craft beads
  • red paint (I used Dixie Belle)
  • medium and small craft paint brushes
  • metal floral wire
  • gold or silver glitter
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks

Step 1.

Draw a leaf template (about 5″ L x 3.5″ W) onto a piece of cardboard and cut it out. Trace the template onto the white fabric and cut out. You will need 36 leaves.

Step 2.

Using a medium craft paint brush, coat the leaves with Mod Podge, front and back. Set the leaves aside to dry, about an hour. I hung mine up across a mantel with jute twine and mini clothespins.

*Coating the leaves with Mod Podge is very important. If you don’t, the fabric will be droopy. With Mod Podge the fabric holds it’s shape, yet is still flexible.

Step 3.

Brush Mod Podge along the perimeter of the fabric leaves. Apply glitter to the leaves and shake off the excess.

Step 4.

To paint the craft beads, find a pencil or dowel to hold them in place. I used the back of a small paintbrush. Paint the craft beads with one coat of red paint. Set aside and let dry.

Step 5.

Overlap six leaves in a circular pattern to form the flowers. Hold in place with hot glue. They don’t have to be perfect! Create six flowers.

Step 6.

String three red beads onto a piece of wire. Twist into a triangle shape, trim the wire and tuck underneath.

Step 7.

Hot glue the wooden balls to the middle of the fabric flowers.

Step 8.

Arrange the flowers on the wreath form. Form a pleasing arrangement by overlapping and making sure the wreath form is covered. Bend the leaves to the curve of the wreath form and hot glue in place. Done!

What do you think? I love how it adds some holiday cheer to my collection.

The red beads give it just the right pop of color.

And the glitter adds some welcome holiday sparkle!

I hope you liked my Winter White Fabric Flower Holiday Wreath! I really enjoyed making it 🙂
