DIY Embellished Hat and Mitten Gift Set
Hi everyone! The holiday fun continues today with the Celebrate Christmas Blog Hop, hosted by Leen of Sand Dollar Lane. I’m so excited to join this talented group for the first time! Twenty seven bloggers are sharing their home tours, tablescapes and DIY Gifts.
If you’re coming over from 2 Bees in a Pod, welcome! Jenn and Vicki are so creative. I have several people on my Christmas list who would love one of their Rice & Lavender Heating Pads!
When choosing a gift, I like to give something that I would love to receive myself. I have a green knit hat that my sister-in-law gave me years ago that I love. It has crocheted flowers with rhinestones, and it’s just adorable.
This year, I decided to try a DIY embellished hat and mitten gift set. I don’t know how to crochet (yet!) so instead I made some flowers out of felt. Guess who this gift is for? Yes, it’s for my sister-in-law. I hope she likes it as much as I loved her gift!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Store bought hat and mittens (I found mine at Marshalls)
- Felt in colors of your choice
- Buttons
- Sharp scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Needle and thread
- Shot glass
- Embroidery floss and embroidery needle
- Pen and cardboard
Step 1.
Using the shot glass as a template, draw a circle on the felt with a pen. Cut out the circle and repeat four more times.
Step 2.
Cut a slit to the middle point of each circle.
Step 3.
Fold the top slit over the bottom and hot glue in place.
Step 4.
Hot glue the five circles together, with the cut and glued parts facing inward. I found this to be the hardest part. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s the imperfection that makes this gift charming and unique!
Step 5.
Sew a button (or buttons) in the middle of the felt flower. Make two more flowers.
Step 6.
Make a leaf template on a piece of cardboard. I drew mine freehand. Trace the template onto the green felt and cut out five leaves.
Step 7.
Place the flowers and the leaves on the hat to find your desired arrangement. Hot glue the leaves onto the flowers.
Step 8.
Using the embroidery floss and needle, sew the flowers to the hat from the underside.
And you’re done! This DIY Embellished Hat and Mitten Set cost less than $20. A cute, cozy and one of a kind gift!
Thanks for stopping by today! Next on the hop is Leigh from The Little by Little Home. She’s sharing a recipe for Christmas Potpourri that makes another perfect gift!
Now be sure to check out the rest of the blogs below for more holiday inspiration and ideas!
Until next time!
