Blue and White Nautical Summer Tablescape

blue and white nautical summer tablescapeCan you believe it’s almost Summer?  Since Memorial Day weekend is the official Summer kickoff, we’re just over a week away!  What better way to acknowledge it’s arrival than the Welcome Summer Tablescape Blog Hop.

As I live in coastal Connecticut, I associate Summer with the beach.  So it seemed fitting to welcome Summer with a blue and white nautical Summer tablescape.

I’ve joined about 20 talented bloggers to bring you a week full of beautiful Summer inspiration.  Thank you to Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate for graciously coordinating this event!  Be sure to click on the links at the bottom to view all of the lovely tablescapes.

For my tablecloth, I used a length of home decor fabric from a bolt that I’ve had for years.  It’s by Ralph Lauren and it reminds me of a beach umbrella.  Guess what?  I didn’t hem the fabric.  I just cut if off the bolt and called it a day.  Shh…it’s our secret.blue and white nautical summer tablescapeI made the sailboat from a piece of driftwood, a twig and a scrap of the same tablecloth fabric.hand crafted driftwood sailboat The plates are restaurant china that my mom and I found years ago at a church basement sale.  The sea grass placemats are a recent thrifting score.  I got six of them for two bucks!  I love the texture they add to the table.blue and white dinner plate with an anchor motif on a sea grass placematI used my favorite blue goblets again that were featured in my Thanksgiving tablescape.cobalt blue drinking glassThe centerpiece is a large hurricane that I purchased at a Southern Living home party over 15 years ago.  I use it all the time and fill it with various seasonal items.  For this tablescape, I filled it with sand, shells and a candle.glass hurricane centerpiece filled with sand, shells and a candleThe sherbet dishes are a part of my collection of blue depression glass.blue depression glass sherbet dishI used a weathered board as a table runner.  I like how it adds a bit of height in the center of the table.  I did the same thing with my Easter tablescape.blue and white nautical theme tablescapeThe flatware is wrapped in a white linen napkin and tied with jute twine.  I placed it diagonally on the plate so it wouldn’t obscure the anchor motif. blue and white nautical summer tablescapeThe sprigs in the cobalt vases are simply fillers of sea lavender that I rescued from my Mother’s Day bouquet.  I thought they had a coastal vibe.blue and white nautical summer tablescapeThe blue glass ball is from our Christmas decorations.  I removed the ribbon we used to hang it on the tree.blue glass ball on a weathered wood table runner surrounded by shellsThe vintage clear salt and pepper shakers are from my mom’s stash.shells, vintage glass salt and pepper shakers and dried sea lavender in mini blue glass vasesI rounded out the decor with various shells, starfish and a shell trinket box from my collection.blue and white nautical summer tablescapeI hope you liked my blue and white nautical Summer tablescape!  I really enjoyed putting it together.  Are you ready for Summer?  I know I am 🙂

  8. I love anything coastal or nautical and your table is just perfect! Your choice for the fabric for the tablecloth is just right and all of the little accents and elements coordinate so well. I really like your diner style dinner plates with the anchor motif on them. Tying the flatware makes me think about all of the knots I never learned to tie when we were sailors on Lake Erie! The driftwood, the shells, all of it makes me think of summer on a boat or on the beach! Thank you for being part of another hop!

  11. I love all things nautical and beach oriented Rebecca, and your blue and white table is just fabulous! I used to live in New Canaan, and loved going over to the beaches of Long Island Sound nearby, and your table reminds me of those days with the crisp blue and white and your driftwood sail boat, ropes and shells…perfect all summer long!!

    1. Thanks Jenna! New Canaan is a beautiful town with lovely beaches. It’s definitely a perk of living in Connecticut!

  12. Rebecca, a fabulous tablescape I’d expect to see in Better Homes and Gardens! The fabric does remind me of a beach umbrella – so clever! And, I LOVE that you created the sail centerpiece yourself — I would have guessed it came from Pottery Barn. All the centerpiece elements come together wonderfully. I could never access one ornament from my stash of packed away holiday decorations — you must have a much better storage system!

    1. Thanks Debbee! Oh how I’d love to be in BH&G…what a sweet compliment. I don’t really have a great Christmas decor storage system, I just remembered which box the glass balls were in!

  13. Rebecca, I adore nautical and you did not disappoint. Using your beautiful blue and white fabric for a tablecloths is genius (and no one can see if it is hemmed, I have many such blots of fabric) I think I remember plates similar to your plates, at a seafood place, what a great find. All the other coastal elements of your table are perfect and give just the right amount of clear skies and smooth sailing to your tablescape. It is such fun to see all the inspiration of all the tables.

  14. Rebecca, your blue and white nautical table is striking. The bold colors and stripe pattern speak summer and the beach or lake. Your sailboat is too cute and your weathered board decorated with assorted shells is a great focal point. The restaurant china with the anchor motif was quite a vintage score and a great price. I don’t seem to find those kinds of deals.
I love love your blue depression glass sherbets.
I did like your blue and white nautical tablescape. Great job.

  15. Rebecca, your table is quintessentially summertime New England in my opinion! That is one fine tablescape you’ve assembled there with the RL fabric and sailboat you crafted. Blue & white are just fabulous anytime, but especially in summertime. Love the natural tones you’ve added with the placemats and choice of shells. It really grounds the blue & white. Well done!
